Surf Shop History
We started our shop out of a small eco-tours business called Sandbridge Eco Sports. Over the few years the surf section of the company started to grow. The company then exchanged hands and we changed the name of the shop to Surf & Adventure. Since then we live and die by the words of the shop owner Rob Lindauer “don’t believe the hype” rather than following the word and rumors around the industry. We aim to provide honest advice and sell surfboards that ride in realistic conditions. We are friendly and welcome to everybody from top pros to newbs.

More About Surf & Adventure Co
An interview with Surf & Adventure Co
When did you start your business?
We started about 5 years ago. The main core surf part of it.
Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?
Yes absolutely. We’re less than a quarter mile from the sand and there’s only one road in and out of Sandbridge.
Who is your average buyer?
Our average buyer is usually beginner to intermediate surfers.
If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?
Yes absolutely. We stress to all of our employees that everybody is worth your time. Everybody has to start somewhere.
What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?
If they can learn how to surf on a 5’9” shortboard.
Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?
Yes we do- “Gidget” the pup.
What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?
People bring rental boards back totally broken saying that they did nothing wrong.
Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?
Yes we have a surf team and support a few local surfers- Tyler Balak, Hillary Waters.
What is your most annoying grom story?
We love the groms. They are gonna be are future customers and their parents are our current customers.
Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?
Not that I know of.
Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?
Yes. My long time girlfriend I met when we were working here.
How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?
I surf whenever there’s surf.
Who is your favorite surfer and why?
Rob Machado- I enjoy the way that he can rip it all and isn’t a surf snob.
Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?
No, but hopefully when it does happen it’ll be easy on the eyes.
Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.
Yes. A guy came in on some serious LSD and ended up talking my ear off about Slayer before he bought a bar of wax and left.
Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?
A kid came into our shop once and swapped out an old Sector 9 for a new one off of the shelf. We eventually tracked him down and called his wrestling coach and got the board back. The lesson is don’t steal from a shop where people know yer name.
And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?
We have a dock over a really murky canal out back. Any employe that screws up and wants to be forgiven of their sins has to swim in the sludgy water under the dock.
