When did you start your business?

Shelter Surf Shop first opened its doors in January 2007.

Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?

Our Location is unique and we feel this is part of the draw that attracts people and makes them want to see what were all about. We’re located 6 miles from the nearest breaking wave in Seal Beach but Long Beach is full of surfers and this town rich with surfing history.

Who is your average buyer?

We sell to folks who are looking for looking for a unique and personal take on surfing. From groms to salty old dogs, both guys and girls. We’re here for everyone to celebrate the soul of surfing.

If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?

We’re are the Loc-Barneys.

What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?

Do you think this is a dumb question?

Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?

Our Kids River and Jude. They are totally wild.

Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?

No Team. A close group of friends that surf well, spread good vibe and exemplify the diversity that Shelter embodies.

What is your most annoying grom story?

“ Dude… you should totally sponsor me and give me free stuff. I Rip.I swear.”

Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?

Yep

Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?

My Wife thinks Im ok i guess and I think she’s totally hot!

How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?

We opened up a surf sop so that we could surf as many days as physically possible. We open at 11 every day so we are on eternal Dawn Patrol.

Who is your favorite surfer and why?

Tyler Warren, Dirt, Justin Adams, Ryan Thomas, RK and may more because they are talented surfers and amazing people.
