Surf Shop History
The shop started as a women’s boutique at first. We slowly started getting boards in and more surfers came in. More surfers started to come and that made it transpire into a surf shop.

More About Rk's Surf Shop
An interview with Rk's Surf Shop
When did you start your business?
1994
Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?
Yes absolutely. We’re the closest surf shop to the beach and right in the heart of town.
Who is your average buyer?
We get a lot of tourists from the ages 15-18. A lot of the younger kids that live around here come in here too.
If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?
Yes we treat everybody equally. We laugh after they leave.
What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?
The recent dumbest one I’ve heard is – “Can you break a surfboard.”
Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?
No mascot actually.
What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?
I’ve actually never had a crazy return.
Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?
We don’t have a surf team at this time.
What is your most annoying grom story?
Jeffrey. This little blonde surfer kid comes in here and tries to make out with me every day.
Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?
Yes- our local weather man.
Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?
How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?
Mostly a couple times a week now. It’s flat around here a lot.
Who is your favorite surfer and why?
Rob Machado- because he’s more about the soul surfing and not the in yer face type.
Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?
That’s never happened actually.
Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.
They come in here wasted all of the time, but they have never bought anything.
Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?
Our shoplifting policy is if you steal something and we catch you we call the cops. My most memorable one is when this kid stole a Plan B deck down his pants and ran out and took off on his scooter. Ed had to chase him all the way down the street. He had to finally get in his car and look for him since he couldn’t catch him.
And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?
I’m gonna say no comment on this one because it’s too crazy to talk about.
