Surf Shop History

The shop was originally started by somebody else. It was just a kayak and snorkel shop. The shop was originally connected to a little dive surf shop. I came over here and started giving surf lessons for the little surf shop and giving kayak lessons for the kayak shop. They asked me if I wanted to manage kind of both of the shops so I took them up on it. I called up Brock and told him to come over and help me manage both of the shops from the original Kona Boys. We decided to work for both shops for equity and less wages. When we got to own about a third of both shops Brock and I decided to buy them from the original Kona Boys. In 2005 Brock and I bought out the original Kona Boys. We then started to expand into all of the surf supplies we carry etc. The fact that surfing is our passion and our lifestyle we love the fact that we now own and operate Kona Boys.

An interview with Kona Boys

When did you start your business?

1996

Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?

Who is your average buyer?

If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?

What is the dumbest question a customer has ever asked?

Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?

What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?

Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?

What is your most annoying grom story?

Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?

Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?

How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?

Who is your favorite surfer and why?

Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?

Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.

Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?

And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?
