Do you consider the location of your shop a key factor to the business’s success?

Location location location brah.

Who is your average buyer?

Local surfers and the University of Hawaii students.

If a total Barney walks in do you treat him with the same respect as a full on loc?

We treat them better actually. The locals know it all already. They’ve been there done that. They want a discount usually.

What is the dumbest question that a customer has ever asked?

Too many to think of. “Can I put the leash around my neck?” “Do I wax the top of the board or the bottom of the board?”

Do you have a mascot (ex. - An animal that roams freely throughout the building)?

Yes our shop rat- “The mouse.” He keeps eating our welcome mat.

What is the craziest return a customer has ever tried to make?

A guy buys a board and goes to “Tracks” or “Sandy’s” and breaks his board in 2 pieces and tries to return it for a refund or a new board.

Does your store support any local surfers or have a surf team?

Yes we sponsor a few guys- Christian Marcher & Keagan Edwards.

What is your most annoying grom story?

I’d have to have a couple beers in me to think of this one.

Have you ever had any type of celeb roll in and make a purchase?

Said Tagamahoui and Chris Leven.

Have you ever pulled a hot chick/guy solely due to the fact that you own/manage a surf shop?

All of the boys do, but not me. I’m married.

How many days a week do you surf now compared to before you owned/managed a surf shop?

I still surf about 6 days a week.

Who is your favorite surfer and why?

Kelly- because he’s the man. I say no more. Carissa Moore- she’s a sweetheart and surfs better than the boys.

Has a customer trying on clothes ever walked out completely naked?

Yep

Has a person ever walked in totally blitzkrieged (really intoxicated) and tried to make a purchase? If so elaborate.

All of the time. The Varsity bar has a 100 taps of beer. We get the college kids wasted in here all of the time buying beers etc.

Every store has to deal with shoplifting. What is your most memorable experience and what is your shoplifting policy?

Our shoplifting policy is we lock the door and have a baseball bat and beat the shit out of them. The community definitely steps in when we have any type of shoplifting issue. We are well known in this area. One time a guy ran out of the store with a skateboard and we chased him out and grabbed him and started beating him down and one of our buddies happened to be driving his moped by and stopped and helped us beat the shit out of him.

And last but not least tell us one of the craziest shop stories you can remember?

Every once in a while I’ll be cruising by the shop with my wife and kids after we’ve gone out to eat. It’s about 9 p.m. and the shop closes at 7. I’ll notice that there’s a party going on in the shop. A full keg, I scratch my head.
